Fees for the 2021-22 US Medical Residency Application Cycle

Are you familiar with all the Residency Application Fees you’ll be responsible for when applying for The Match? Understanding of these fees will help you better organize financial resources. Below is an outline of the fees and costs associated with the US Medical Residency Application process from start to finish.

USMLE (For International Medical Graduates – IMGs)

Exams

  • USMLE Step 1 = $975 + International Test Delivery Surcharge, if testing outside the US and Canada
  • USMLE Step 2CK = $975 + International Test Delivery Surcharge, if testing outside the US and Canada

Additional Services

  • Extension of Eligibility = $90 per exam
  • Step 1/Step 2CK Testing Region Change = $85 per region change
  • Step 1/Step 2CK Rescheduling Fee = $0 – $604 (depending on exam, testing region, and date of cancellation)
  • Score Recheck (Step 1/Step 2 CK) = $80 per exam

ECFMG 

ECFMG Services

  • ERAS Token = $145
  • Application for ECFMG Certification = $150
  • Application for J-1 Sponsorship = $360  (Plus $220 fee to the Department of Homeland Security, required for initial applicants of J-1 sponsorship)
  • Medical School Transcript Translation = $250 (if needed)
  • CVS Verification to State Medical Licensing Authority = $60

ECFMG + USMLE

  • USMLE Transcript (Paper Copy) = $70 per request (up to 10)
  • USMLE Transcript (Electronic) = $80 (Once per ERAS season)

ECFMG Pathway Fee

  • $900

AAMC/ERAS 

Programs Per Specialty

  • Up to 10 = $99
  • 11 – 20 = $16 each
  • 21 – 30 = $19 each
  • 31 or more = $26 each

For example:

100 Emergency Medicine programs [$99.00 + (10 x $16.00) + (10 x $20.00) +(70 x $26.00] = $2,279.00

Or, if you want to split up your application:

100 OB/GYN programs [$99.00 + (10 x $16.00) + (10 x $20.00) +(70 x $26.00] + 50 Family Medicine programs [$99.00 +(10 x $16.00) + (10 x $20.00) + (20 x 26.00) = $3,258.00

**Note: AAMC/ERAS takes Visa and Mastercard only. All fees are non-refundable, therefore, you will want to research programs carefully.

NRMP ®

  • Registration Fee =  $85 (first 20 programs on primary rank list)
  • Late Fee =  $50 (after January 31st)
  • Couples = $45 additional per partner
  • Additional Programs = $30 per program
