Fees for the 2017-18 US Medical Residency Application Cycle

While wanting to become a doctor is quite an amazing ambition, it does not come without a cost. Smart residency applicants know there are many costs and fees along the road to residency. Early awareness of these fees will help those applying for US medical residency better organize their financial resources and budget accordingly.

Below are all of the fees and costs associated with the US Medical Residency Application process from start to finish, and everything in between.

USMLE 2017-18 (For IMGs)

Exams

  • USMLE Step 1 = $895 + International Test Delivery Surcharge, if testing outside the US and Canada
  • USMLE Step 2 CK = $895 + International Test Delivery Surcharge, if testing outside the US and Canada
  • USMLE Step 2 CS = $1,550

Additional Services

  • Extension of Eligibility = $70 per exam
  • Step 1/Step 2 CK Testing Region Change = $65 per region change
  • Step 1/Step 2 CK Rescheduling Fee = $0 – $569 (depending on exam, testing region, and date of cancellation)
  • Step 2 CS Rescheduling Fee = $0 – $1,280 (depending on date of cancellation)
  • Score Recheck (Step 1/Step 2 CK/Step 2 CS) = $80 per exam

 

ECFMG 2017-18

ECFMG Services

  • ERAS Token = $115
  • Application for ECFMG Certification = $75
  • Application for J-1 Sponsorship = $325 + $180 to the Department of Homeland Security
  • Medical School Transcript Translation = $250 (if needed)

ECFMG + USMLE

  • USMLE Transcript (Paper Copy) = $70 per request (up to 10)
  • USMLE Transcript (Electronic) = $80 (Once per ERAS season)

AAMC/ERAS 2017-18

Programs Per Specialty

  • Up to 10 = $99
  • 11 – 20 = $13 each
  • 21 – 30 = $17 each
  • 31 or more = $26 each

For example, in one specialty:

  • 100 programs = $2,219
  • 200 programs = $4,819

**Note: AAMC/ERAS takes Visa and Mastercard only. All fees are non-refundable, therefore, you will want to research programs carefully.

NRMP® 2017-18

  • Registration Fee =  $70 (first 20 programs on primary rank list)
  • Late Fee =  $50 (after Nov. 30)
  • Couples = $15 additional per partner
  • Additional Programs = $30 per program
