There is nothing in ERAS (at the time of publishing this article) that indicates or tells programs whether or not you are a residency reapplicant. 

If you applied to ERAS in years past, the only way programs will know this is if you applied to their program directly and they happen to recognize your name and application. If you interviewed at a certain program, it is of course far more likely that they will understand that you are a residency reapplicant. 

 

The Game-Plan

Being a residency reapplicant is not something you should spend too much time fretting over. As the old adage goes, “It is what it is.” In other words, this is your present situation and you have to make the most of it. 

If you did not Match previously and it comes up in an interview, make sure you have a response in mind that addresses the fundamental circumstances with you taking all responsibility for the situation(s) and moving forward in your journey. Of course, never make excuses or blame others! 

 

Again, being a residency reapplicant is not as much of a Red Flag as many make it out to be. As ever, arm yourself with knowledge, prepare yourself to the best of your abilities, and visualize your success.
